Summer's End
03:43
|
|||
the dimming light at close of day
the painted clouds grown ashen gray
above the branches’ listless sway
September moon will show the way
winds are shifting once again
as waves of cooler air descend
with voices of remembered friends
things lost and found at summer’s end
at summer’s end
returning to me now and then
retrace the path I used to know
along the hills to rocks below
and here beside the water’s flow
a vision in my mind aglow
the forest all around me breathes
and lingering among the trees
the ghosts of long ago I see
at summer’s end
and it appears to me
it isn’t like it used to be
help me with my unbelief
at summer’s end
the starry seas rise once again
a distant and impassive friend
observe what I can’t comprehend
and bid farewell to summer’s end

Human
05:07
|
|||
awake but half in slumber
both strangers who have shut ourselves away
we’re unencumbered
with no real contact getting in the way
we keep it secret
indulge our curiosity for play
no need to speak it
we can type the words we’re too ashamed to say
and lead our hearts astray
just wasting time till we hear the sound
that takes us out of the underground
renew our minds and become ourselves again
let’s leave the ways that have held us down
the sins and crimes that we dragged around
let’s find a way to be human once again
resigned to our stagnation
we’re sense deprived and craving something new
no complications
we’re only letting distant signals through
it’s all distraction
we take the pointless as our point of view
ourselves abstractions
what matters is what seems and not what’s true
but that’s not me and you
just wasting time till we hear the sound
that takes us out of the underground
renew our minds and become ourselves again
we need a place where we all belong
but won’t give in just to get along
why don’t we to try to be human once again?
I choose to believe
that honest songs still can reach us
that songs can make us feel
like we’ve rediscovered love
our hunger never sated
we lurk for hours to feed our appetites
of course we’re jaded
we witness casual cruelty day and night
it’s all around us
we can sink under the wave without a fight
and let it drown us
‘cause who can figure out what’s wrong and right
with all extremes in sight?
just wasting time till we hear the sound
that takes us out of the underground
renew our minds and become ourselves again
‘cause we’re not fools and we won’t be pawns
we’re not machines or automatons
we just need to be human once again

Little Dolly
04:13
|
|||
Little dolly – I’m trying to reach you
Little dolly – I’m someone you can to talk to
yet when I see you all alone and call your name
you get so frightened that you just can’t breathe!
Little dolly – it’s time to enjoy your life!
Little dolly – I’ll take you to a motel
Trust in me, I’m gonna help you get well
your fragile body holds a secret diary
in time you’ll read out every page to me
Little dolly – it’s time to enjoy your life!
You’re so pretty – oh!
My little dolly – let’s go!
It’s undeniable that you belong to me!
Little dolly – it’s time to enjoy your life!
Little dolly – it’s time to enjoy your life!
Little dolly – I’ll show you the big world
and if I raise my hand you’ll be a brave girl
‘cause no one else can ease the pain of your desire
it’s time you dedicate yourself to me
Little dolly – it’s time to enjoy your life!
Little dolly – it’s time to enjoy your life!
Little dolly – it’s time to enjoy your life!
Little dolly – I’m gonna let you outside
yes, I’m gonna take you on a joyride
a wheel of color spinning wild inside your head
so much to do and many things to see!
Little dolly – it’s time to enjoy your life!
Little dolly – it’s time to enjoy your life!

On My Way Back Home
04:05
|
|||
land appearing from below
touch the tarmac, jolt and slow
we’ve been apart too long
bags in hand, sail down the stairs
reach the station, pay the fare
the train rolls in on time
I’m on my way back home!
step inside and take a seat
forward engine, pick up speed
the world goes rushing by!
I’m on my way back home!
I’m on my way back home!
cars in motion
buildings fall and rise
fascinating
changes fill my eyes
hurry on, no need to brake!
every street parts in our wake
I’ll race into her arms!
I’m on my way back home!
I’m on my way back home!

The King of Rag & Bone
06:43
|
|||
The king of rag & bone
unwell and left alone
composed with strings
and hollow things
odd music of his own
He’d sing down in the square
with crown of silver hair
but they’d ignore
this troubadour
whose sounds would thread the air
O rag & bone!
Hail king rag & bone!
The king of rag & bone
newspaper microphone
a pauper lord
long unadored
with feeble voice intoned
he ruled no one
his riches none
a park bench for a throne
O rag & bone!
Mad king rag and bone!
His public passed him by
they couldn’t fathom why
this wretch would write
for his delight
strange songs no soul would buy
he must be dim
such worthless hymns!
with harmonies awry
O rag & bone!
Poor king rag & bone!
But how you shone!
Good king rag & bone!
Alas old rag & bone
from this cruel world has flown
his huddled shape
with mouth agape
lay frozen on the stones
and not a friend
to mark his end
and his life’s work never known
Goodbye rag & bone!

In Memory
04:28
|
|||
I captured you
as you turned from me
I held you there
in the glass
a way to save you
where you’d never change
where I could join you
in the past
And the skyline is ours today
see the buildings rise from Elliott Bay
just a slip of a girl
who is looking away
And I keep you
ever near me
In memory
Caught from behind
mostly silhouette
against the water
silver blue
Your face is hidden
but your vision clear
of your favorite city
my favorite view
And the skyline is ours today
as the buildings climb from Elliott Bay
precious wisp of a girl
from a place faraway
There’s a kind of pleasure
in a photograph
with one observing
one observed
My eyes now aging
look over you
in a past still living
a time preserved
and when I miss you
you are never far
for in my longing
there is still you
And the skyline is ours today
let the buildings spire over Elliott Bay
fleeting ghost of a girl
free of life’s long decay
forever a moment
where you’ll always stay
And I will keep you
just before me
I can almost reach you
We’re only steps apart
In memory

The Boneyard
02:35
|
|||
they’re taking old cars
down to the boneyard
they’re piled in mountains
to rust and decay
there’s Packards and Fords
down in the boneyard
the emblems get stolen
the metal they weigh
into the crusher
they all end up equal
there’s bound to be trouble
down in the boneyard
when Pete and the angels
drink up their pay
there’s no point in crying
down in the boneyard
it all goes to pieces
then it’s all shipped away
they’re junking old cars
down in the boneyard
someday they’ll make room for me

I Dream of Rainbows
04:14
|
|||
The days diminished
when the autumn colors bled
And birds of fancy
gathered up their wings and fled
As an early snow embraced
the dying lilies their beds
Until tomorrow
I’ll dream of rainbows
Tread through the drifts of ice
under limbs of ash exposed
The passing storm still hides
the starlight’s sacred glow
Into the furrowed fields engraved with frost
I’ve not a seed to sow
But cold as the wind blows
I’ll dream of rainbows
Through winter sorrows
Hold on to rainbows
When spring comes to delight us
with her verdant threads
Her morning choir reconjure
visions in our heads
I’ll awake and all my sheathes
of rusted armor will be shed
I’ll watch the dawn grow
I’ll see the rainbows
And as the clouds go
There will be rainbows
I dream of rainbows

A Summer Song
03:56
|
|||
Goodbye my darling
My love all along
I’m leaving before you
For the hand of fate is strong
Through all of my winters
You were where I’d belong
May all be forgiven again
Now I’m singing a summer song
I’m slipping through tides
Of time’s ancient seas
Can’t fight the current
Can’t change what will be
Though I am afraid
It won’t be for long
And I will go with joy in my heart
Singing a summer song
Life everlasting
A world without end
These things I used to believe
But I’ll stand and be counted
For as much as I am
Treasure this moment
With music and you
Then be on my way
Singing a summer song
